Under section 10 of the Health Quality and Patient Safety Act, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following Regulation:
Citation
1This Regulation may be cited as the General RegulationHealth Quality and Patient Safety Act.
Definition of “Act”
2In this Regulation, “Act” means the Health Quality and Patient Safety Act.
Quality of care and safety of patients committee
3(1)The chief executive officer of a health care organization shall appoint at least five members to the health care organization’s quality of care and safety of patients committee.
3(2)In making appointments under subsection (1), the chief executive officer shall ensure that the committee includes members with skills and experience in the following areas:
(a) medicine;
(b) quality of care and safety;
(c) clinical care;
(d) risk management; and
(e) health care management.
Patient safety incident
4If during the review of a patient safety incident reported to a quality of care and safety of patients committee under subsection 3(1) of the Act, the committee determines that the incident is not a patient safety incident as defined in the Act, the committee shall notify the health care organization as soon as the circumstances permit.
Report
5A quality of care and safety of patients committee shall submit its report to the board of directors of a health care organization not more than 180 days after the committee was notified that a patient safety incident or other incident had occurred.
