1Section 2 of New Brunswick Regulation 84-165 under the Electrical Installation and Inspection Act is amended by adding the following definition in alphabetical order:
“professional electrical engineer” means an electrical engineer who is registered as a member under the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act;(ingénieur électricien)
2Section 17 of the Regulation is repealed and the following is substituted:
17(1)Subject to subsection (2), on request, the Chief Electrical Inspector may approve the plans and specifications for a type III installation if they comply with the requirements of the Code and this Regulation.
17(2)No person, firm, corporation, company, partnership or electrical contractor shall attempt to install a type III installation with any of the following ratings without the approval of the Chief Electrical Inspector of one copy of a set of plans and specifications that have been stamped, signed and dated by a professional electrical engineer and that comply with the requirements of the Code and this Regulation:
(a) greater than 600 amperes for a 120/240 volts single phase;
(b) greater than 400 amperes for a 120/208 volts three phase;
(c) greater than 400 amperes for a 347/600 volts three phase; or
(d) greater than 347/600 volts.
17(3)Despite subsections (1) and (2), the Chief Electrical Inspector may authorize wiring permits to be issued without the approval of the plans and specifications on all temporary services and on all prebuilt approved electrical systems installed in or on a moveable van, trailer, building or other structure.
17(4)No change shall be made to the set of plans and specifications referred to in subsection (1) or (2) without the approval of the Chief Electrical Inspector.
17(5)When work on a type III installation is in progress, the electrical contractor shall ensure that
(a) if the plans and specifications were approved by the Chief Electrical Inspector under subsection (1), a copy of the approved plans and specifications is available on site at all times,
(b) if the plans and specifications were approved by the Chief Electrical Inspector under subsection (2), a copy of the approved plans and specifications is available on site at all times, or
(c) in any other case, a copy of the plans and specifications is available on site at all times.
3Section 23 of the Regulation is amended by adding after subsection (6.1) the following:
23(6.2)Despite subsections (6) and (6.1), the fee for the approval of the plans and specifications for a type III installation referred to in subsection 17(2) is $100.
4This Regulation comes into force on April 1, 2016.
