1New Brunswick Regulation 88-57 under the Change of Name Act is amended by adding after section 4 the following:
4.1(1)For the purposes of paragraph 8(b) of the Act, proposed given names and surnames included in a change of registered name form shall
(a) contain only
(i) characters from the Roman alphabet, and
(ii) accents from the French language, if applicable, and
(b) not be longer than
(i) 38 characters in the case of a given name, and
(ii) 30 characters in the case of a surname.
4.1(2)For the purposes of paragraph 8(c) of the Act, a proposed registered name shall not reasonably be expected to cause mistake or confusion.
4.1(3)For the purpose of paragraph 8(d) of the Act, an application to change the registered name of a person shall not be sought for a fraudulent or other improper purpose.
4.2(1)For the purposes of paragraph 10(8)(b) of the Act, proposed given names and surnames included in a change of registered name form shall
(a) contain only
(i) characters from the Roman alphabet, and
(ii) accents from the French language, if applicable, and
(b) not be longer than
(i) 38 characters in the case of a given name, and
(ii) 30 characters in the case of a surname.
4.2(2)For the purposes of paragraph 10(8)(c) of the Act, a proposed registered name shall not reasonably be expected to cause mistake or confusion.
4.2(3)For the purpose of paragraph 10(8)(d) of the Act, an application to change the registered name of a person shall not be sought for a fraudulent or other improper purpose.
2This Regulation comes into force on March 31, 2013.
