Time for payment of fine
81
Subject to section 84, a fine imposed on a defendant shall be paid to the office of the court
(
a
)
if the amount of the fine is less than $1,200, within 90 days after its imposition, or
(
b
)
if the amount of the fine is $1,200 or more, within 180 days after its imposition.

(1)
A fine imposed in the presence of the defendant shall be paid to the office of the court within fifteen days after its imposition.

(2)
A fine imposed in the absence of the defendant shall be paid to the office of the court within forty-five days after its imposition.

(3)
Notwithstanding subsections (1) and (2),
(
a
)
a judge may order a time for payment of the fine earlier than that stated in subsection (1) or (2), and
(
b
)
a judge, on the request of the defendant, may extend the time for payment of a fine for a period not exceeding forty-five days.
