Under section 51 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following Regulation:
Citation
1This Regulation may be cited as the Training and Designated Trades Regulation - Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Educational program
2An educational program for persons who are or may become a member of a joint health and safety committee or a health and safety representative shall be delivered over a period of at least three days and shall include the following topics:
(a) responsibilities of joint health and safety committees and health and safety representatives;
(b) health and safety and the law;
(c) inspections and hazard identification at a place of employment;
(d) accident review;
(e) prevention resources; and
(f) elements of a sound health and safety program.
Delivery of program
3The educational program shall be one that is delivered by
(a) the Commission,
(b) an employee at a place of employment who has been approved by the Commission to deliver the program for that place of employment, or
(c) an organization approved by the Commission.

Certificate upon successful completion
4Upon successful completion of the educational program, the Commission shall provide each person who attended the course with a signed and dated certificate, entitled “Joint Health and Safety Committee and Health and Safety Representative Educational Program”.
Designated trades
5The following trades are designated for the purpose of subsection 14.4(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act:
(a) carpenter;
(b) labourer;
(c) bricklayer;
(d) ironworker;
(e) sheet metal worker;
(f) heat and frost insulator;
(g) plumber and pipefitter;
(h) electrician;
(i) millwright;
(j) equipment operator;
(k) roofer;
(l) boilermaker;
(m) painter;
(n) elevator constructor.
Commencement
6This Regulation comes into force on June 1, 2007.
