Under section 2 of the Natural Products Grades Act, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following Regulation:
1This Regulation may be cited as the Weighing of Dressed Carcasses of Livestock Regulation Natural Products Grades Act.
2In this Regulation
“dressed carcass” means the eviscerated carcass of any livestock dressed as may be prescribed;
“establishment” means any enclosed place owned, controlled or operated by any operator or his agent for the purpose of slaughtering livestock and weighing dressed carcasses;
“operator” means any person, partnership or corporation engaged in the business of slaughtering livestock to the number of three thousand in any calendar year.
3Every operator who purchases livestock from a producer on the basis of live or dressed carcass weight shall weigh such carcasses on scales which are of a type approved by the Minister.
4Every operator shall ensure that all weigh scales used for weighing livestock and dressed carcasses in his establishment are operated only by weighers approved by the Minister.
5Every operator shall ensure that all weight tickets and statements of settlement for the producer, showing the weights of livestock and dressed carcasses at his establishment, are completed in such manner as may be approved by the Minister.
6In the case of all livestock purchased on the basis of dressed carcass weight, the operator shall:
(a) indicate on the statement of settlement whether the weights are warm or cold carcass weights or computed shrunk weights;
(b) use a standard method of dressing as required by the Minister;
(c) standardize the weights of all gambrels, hooks, trolleys and any other equipment which is weighed with the dressed carcasses; and
(d) adjust the tare on the scale accordingly.
7(1)All livestock intended for carcass weight settlement shall be identified before slaughter in a manner satisfactory to the Minister.
7(2)The onus for identifying livestock pursuant to subsection (1) is on the producer or his agent and the operator shall ensure that such identification carries through to the dressed carcass.
8Every operator shall keep a record, on the form provided by the Minister, of the origin, class, volume, quality, weight and purchase price of all livestock purchased.
9Regulation 124, Statutory Orders and Regulations, 1963, under the Natural Products Grades Act is repealed.
